Mia Nicholson & Friends
April 12, 2024 // 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm
$11
Jazz vocalist Mia Nicholson sings with a sincerity that catches listeners off guard — and leaves them thoroughly enchanted.
A professional writer as well as a singer, Mia values lyrics as much as music. That’s why she loves the songs of the 1930’s, 40’s, 50’s and 60’s — an era of musical excellence and intelligence when, she says, “the quality of the lyrics was equal to the quality of the compositions.” But she’s not a revivalist. Mixing reverence with an equal measure of modern sensibility, Mia delivers her tastefully chosen songbook with such freshness and insight it would be easy to believe these tunes were recently written just for her. Mia’s repertoire features works by Cole Porter, Duke Ellington, Rogers and Hart, Hoagy Carmichael and Johnny Mercer, Harold Arlen, David Frishberg, Antonio Carlos Jobim and Paul Simon.
